SPRUCE EFFECTS Lichen Fuzz Overgrowth

The Lichen Fuzz Overgrowth is our flagship effect--and a maniac in a box. Two independent effect circuits, a Lichen Fuzz on the right, and a Growth Ring boost on the left. When experimenting with Germanium fuzz circuits on the breadboard, we wondered what it would be like to boost the fuzz with another Germanium gain stage. The results were staggering. You can run the effects independently, or keep them both on for intense, face-melting fuzz and boost tones.

We always recommend isolated power supplies. If you daisy chain effects on one supply (ours can handle that despite being Germanium PNP powered), you may inject noise, ripple, ground loop hum, etc. This effect requires 9v, center negative power. In other words, the industry standard power supply.


  • Input on top, right side, output to amp on left
  • True-bypass stomp switches are on/off, indicated by LED
  • "Ring" control closest to input side controls the fuzz effect volume, louder is clockwise
  • "Bark" control closest to input side controls the amount of fuzz, more fuzz is clockwise
  • "Ring" control closest to output side controls the amount of boost effect volume, louder/crunchier is clockwise
  • "Girth" controls the frequency response of the boost effect, more bass counter clockwise, more treble clockwise
